The LaForme Pilates Studio specialises in small group sessions using Reform Pilates equipment. The focus is still on a balanced workout, but has a different energy and flow to it. The studio is a sunny airy space right in the heart of Nelson, easy to find and with plenty of off-street parking.

Pilates was developed by Joseph Pilates who was in the internment camp during World War I, where many patients in the hospital were bedbound. Joseph attached springs to a bed to help patients engage in resistance exercises without having to stand up. In the 1920s, Joseph opened his own studio and over time he refined the design of his exercise system. Along with the exercises, he developed the original Pilates equipment. Joseph Pilates understood that exercises could be made far more effective with the added resistance of the equipment.
Pilates equipment has come a long way since the 1920s, but the principles are still the same. The reformer is an essential piece of equipment that provides an effective way to lengthen and strengthen the muscles of the body. The reformer is able to support your body to a full range of motion. This in turn improves your flexibility while also providing the necessary resistance to strengthen your muscles. It is a full-body workout, without additional stress to your body.
